With most restrictions now lifted across the world, traveling is #1 on many people’s goals for 2023. They are dusting off that ultimate bucket list and are ready to see the world.
So, what are some of the most anticipated destinations travelers will be booking in 2023? Well, the list is long and depends on how you like to vacation. Are into adventure, chilling on the beach, visiting historical destinations? You get the idea 😊
However, according to Forbes, CNT, and Travel & Leisure there are some common destinations travelers are seeking. Below is a list of these popular destinations.
1. NEW ZEALAND
Having one of the most stringent Covid restrictions worldwide, travelers can be pleased to know that at the time of this post all have been lifted. And they are thrilled and are booking a visit in spite of the 17+ flight from the US.
Why is this destination so popular? Mainly because of its great outdoors, stunning National Parks, and pleasant weather year-round. It is a diverse country, and it is the perfect place to visit for the adventurer.
New Zealand is made up of two islands. Its most recognized towns include Queenstown, located on the South Island, and Auckland, one of New Zealand’s largest cities, located on the North Island.
2. EGYPT
You may ask, why is Egypt on this list? Is it safe for Americans to travel there? The answer is YES, it is safe! Egypt has always been a popular travel destination, however, since Covid, it’s popularity has resurfaced. For the most part, Egypt has little rainfall and has warm to very warm temperatures all the time, making it a year-round destination. It is also rich in history, culture, adventure and offers beautiful beaches.
The GEM (Grand Egyptian Museum), Egypt’s newest crown jewel is estimated to open in 2023. It is located just outside of Cairo on the Giza Plateau, which is right next to the Pyramids, another must see attraction.
Other attractions include taking a cruise down the Nile, and if you love water sports, visit the Red Sea Riviera. Check out the Cairo Tower, Tomb of the Nobles, and maybe even take a camel ride!
Before traveling check specific Visa and customs requirements to enter the country. Also, when traveling to this area, it is best to avoid ALL TRAVEL in the North Sinai Region, and engaging in conversation surrounding politics and religion is not suggested.
3. ITALY
Italy’s popularity has not waivered through the Covid pandemic. It is always a popular destination especially during the summer months.
For 2023, most popular cities include Venice, Tuscan Region, Florence, Vatican City, and Rome. Each city has its own history and attractions. All offer regional food that is most popular to the area, as well as amazing wine.
If you are traveling to Italy in during peak season (Jun-Aug), make sure to get tickets in advance and if possible, skip-the-line passes too. Vatican City, the Colosseum, and some museums can have long lines to get in, sometimes up to 2 hours or more, even with advance ticket purchases.
4. PORTUGAL
Portugal has become an increasingly popular destination, and 2023 is no different. Although there are several stunning places to visit rich in history throughout this country, some of the more visited areas include:
Porto, known for their architecture, art, a there many museums. Also, the Douro River, which runs alongside the city is beautiful.
Lisbon, vary popular among tourists, is the capital and largest city in Portugal. It is known for it cuisine, beautiful landscapes and amazing beaches. The night life is also popular in this city.
Madeira & The Azores are the two autonomous regions of Portugal. The scenery is beautiful and is the closest region to the Canary Islands.
5. NORWAY
Many find Norway synonymous with searching for the Northern Lights. Although Arora Borealis does light up the skies in this area there are no guarantees. Although it is said that you have the best opportunity to see them September – March. Norway is also home to some of the most beautiful scenery and fjords in the world, not to mention the charming cities throughout.
Here is a short list of some of the must see and must do activities while visiting this beautiful country.
Flams Bana railway, Sognefjord is said to be one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. It passes through valleys, small towns, breathtaking fjords, waterfalls, etc. It is something you should not miss if you can go.
Northern Lights, Tromso is said to be the best area in Norway to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Why? Because it is located in the so-called oval area.
Geirangerfjord & Naeroyfjord, south-western Norway although there are over 1100 fjords in Norway, if you have to pick only a couple to see these would be the ones to choose. They are two of the longest and deepest fjords in the world. Also, if you are a Disney fan, the city Arendelle in the movie Frozen was inspired by Naeroyfjord. Kinda cool right?
Other places to see include Bryggen Area, Bergen. This is one of Norway’s main attractions with its colorful buildings, and historical sites.
Oslo, Norway’s capital city is also a must see stop when visiting this country. This is a great place to try all of the Norwegian cuisines, visit the many museums, etc.
6. FRANCE
When you think of France you may immediately think of Paris, strolling down the seine river, etc. Although that is a must see for sure, there are so many other areas of France that are noteworthy and amazing to visit.
One of those places is Provence. Located near the French Riviera offers something for every type of traveler. Do you enjoy visiting historic buildings? Then make sure to explore the Palace of the Popes. This site is nearly 700 years old and although showing its age a bit, it is still worth a visit. Check out the 2000-year-old Roman Theatre of Orange. If you are visiting in the summer, you may get lucky and catch a performance at the theatre.
Shop the Provence markets or cook like a local at a sponsored cooking class. Visit the Manguin Distillery or visit one of the many wineries in this area.
Lastly, you must visit Valensole while in the area. Valensole is home to the most beautiful, picturesque lavender fields.
7. MEXICO
Mexico has always been a tourist favorite. It is a great vacation destination with many all-inclusive resorts catering to couples, singles, and families for your accommodations. From the Maya Riviera, to Tulum, Cancun, and Playa Del Carman to the Baja California Peninsula where you can visit Cabo San Lucas, Puerta Vallarta, Mazatlán, Acapulco and more. Whether you are near the Caribbean Seaside or Pacific Ocean side both areas offer all types of water sports, evening cruises, beach parties, and incredible views.
